D2 digital piano
A customizable user-friendly piano
D2 is a new concept of digital piano: modular and customizable by the user according to the different requirements of portability and amplification, but also in terms of style, to reflect the kind of preferred music.
The project’s main objective is to make a complex electronic musical instrument that often has a cold and impersonal image into something more user-friendly and with eye-catching shapes and styles so that it is also attractive to non-professionals.
Taking inspiration from modern appliances, the D2 piano is characterized by a clean and simple design that means it can also function as an elegant piece of furniture. The front section stands out thanks to the introduction of two elements: a digital screen that allows easy viewing of music sheets, and a command interface touch-screen, which replaces the bulky and cumbersome keys and buttons used so far.
The body, designed in two colours (black, gray / blue), allows you to assemble different accessories with support functions (fixed or mobile) and amplifiers (built-in speaker, headphones, external speaker). D2 also allows you to integrate a speaker option, designed according to psychoacoustics principles, which optimizes the diffusion of sound – generally one-way – into a full 360 degrees.
D2 is my master degree project in collaboration with KORG, multinational company for electronic musical instruments. The project has been selected by ADI, Association for Industrial Design, for the section Targa Giovani, which collects the best student works and published in the Adi Design Index 2014.
